Manifest and Advertising Analysis

The application analysis suite has been upgraded. In addition to improvements to the static flow analysis, two new analysis passes have been added:

  1. Manifest Analysis extracts the original manifest from an apk and lists the declared permissions. This will help alert you to permissions that the app uses without beginning the install process
  2. Advertising Analysis searches the apk looking for libraries that match our database of known advertisers. Currently, this analysis simply states the advertisers being used, but we may add trust scores for certain advertisers if there is sufficient demand.

Blog Section Added

We have now opened a blog section on the website. This section is meant to hold longer-form resources than the quick links in the resources section, as well as to be a place for opinions and thoughts about smartphone security in general and Android analysis in particular.

The latest blog posts appear in the sidebar, and an archive of all blog posts is available here. For the time being, comments have been disabled. However, you are encouraged to contact the author of the post directly via email.

New Resources Section

A resources section has been added to the site. The section is also accessible via the Site Map.

The goal of this area of the site is to offer further reading material to visitors interested in mobile security. There are links to other blogs that cover the world of security, privacy, and mobile applications. There are also some links to academic papers that focus on mobile security, along with mini-reviews of each paper.

Hopefully, this section gives readers who are new to the community a way to jump-start their knowledge of mobile security, and gives current community members a way to keep current on smartphone developments.

Analysis Launched

Welcome to the brand new Trusted Enterprise Application Analysis site!

The core of the site is an automated analysis engine that will detect vulnerabilities, unintentional or deliberate, in smartphone applications. Currently, the analysis focuses on Android applications. However, if the analysis appears valuable, an iOS target may be added some day.

In the coming months, additional features will be added to the site, but for now feel free to submit any Android application you'd like for analysis!
